Oli claims Ayodhya is in Nepal

Calling for a potential controversy, Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli claims Ayodhya is in Nepal, the hometown of Lord Rama, lies in Nepal, not in India, he said this on July 13 and also said that Lord Ram was born in Thori, a place in the southern part of Nepal.

Disapproving Mr. Oli’s statement, Bizay Sonkar Shastri, the national spokesperson of BJP said Communists in Nepal would be turned down by a lot of people as they have been turned down in India, Bizay added that communists have played with people’s faith in India even if they exist as left parties.

“Lord Ram is a matter of faith for us, and people will not allow anybody, be it Prime Minister of Nepal or anyone, to play with this,” Bizay Sonkar said in a news meeting in New Delhi.

On the birth anniversary of Nepalese poet “Bhanubhakta,” organized at the Prime Minister’s residence in Kathmandu, PM Oli said that “Nepal has become a victim of cultural encroachment and its history has been manipulated.”

The popular poet of Nepal, Bhanubhakta, was born in 1814 in Tanhu, a place in the western region of Nepal, and he had been credited for converting Valmiki’s Ramayan into Nepali. Bhanubhakt died in 1868.

“Although the real Ayodhya lies at Thori in the west of Birgunj, India has claimed the Indian site as the birthplace of Lord Ram,” Mr. Oli’s Statement.

“We also believe that deity Sita got married to Prince Ram of India. Actually, Ayodhya is a village lying west of Birgunj,” Oli said, adding that at such a distance, the marriage between two was not possible as, at that time, there were no communication and transportation channels.

“The place called Thori, near Birgunj is the real Ayodhya, where Lord Ram was born. In India, there is a great dispute on Ayodhya. But, there is no dispute in our Ayodhya,” Prime Minister Oli quoted by his press advisor Surya Thapa.

The Valmiki Ashram described in the holy books is in Nepal, and also the holy place where Dasharath, the father of Lord Ram executed rites to get his son is in Ridi, Nepal, Mr. Oli said.

Dasharath was the ruler of Nepal, and then it is obvious that his son Lord Ram was born in Nepal, PM Oli argued. This concludes, real Ayodhya is in Nepal, Mr. Oli claimed.

There were many inventions, and studies originated in Nepal in its history. Unfortunately, those rich practices could not continue thereafter, PM Oli said. Oli claims Ayodhya is in Nepal, despite having so much strain in his political career.

PM Oli, under the increasing pressure to resign amid a rift in the ruling party of Nepal i.e., the Nepal Communist Party because of his way of functioning, alleged some of his party’s leaders are aligning with India to remove him from power after the Nepal government issued a new political map under his authority, which is incorporating three territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura which belong to India.

Oli’s allegations have been condemned by the senior NCP leader, and the former Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ and some other leaders also criticized him and demanded Prime Minister Oli’s resignation, saying his current anti-India remarks “are neither politically correct nor diplomatically appropriate.”

The bilateral ties between India and Nepal came under strain when the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, inaugurated an 80-km-long road connecting the Lipulekh with Dharchula on May 8 which is strategically important to India.

Nepal Govt reacted keenly on the construction of the road connecting Lipulekh and Darachula, claiming that it passes through Nepalese territory. India rejected Nepal’s claim by saying that the road completely lies within its territory.

After that, Nepal updated it’s a political map through a Constitutional amendment, which included three strategically crucial Indian territories.

India termed the “artificial enlargement” of the territories by Nepal as “untenable.” Indian Govt has handed over a diplomatic notice to Nepal over this issue, as said by the Nepalese media.
